Hey babes,

This post is all about Jagua’s history, uses, stain, and before/aftercare! If you're new to this world of henna, or just wanting to freshen up your knowledge before booking an appointment with us, I highly recommend taking the time to learn about each of our products so you can make the best decision possible for your needs. Jagua, White Henna and Natural Henna not only have very different stains, but they also require different aftercares (ex: drying time, what to wear, how far out to book event…etc.) to get the darkest and longest lasting stains. With that all out of the way, you can check out the history/uses at the bottom or just read the stain disclaimer and before/aftercare. Let’s dive in!

  • The longer the gel is left on the skin, the darker it will be.

history and Uses

What is Jagua?

Jagua is a tattoo product that is obtained from the juice that is extracted from the Genipa Americana fruit. The Genipa Americana fruit tree actually grows in South America and has served several South Americans native groups as a natural decorating tool that also helps prevent bites from mosquitos. The Genipa Americana belongs to the Genipa species which can be found in the Caribbean, northern South America, and southern Mexico. It grows in rainforests and is commonly known as Huito. The juice is extracted and combined ingredients such as: Xanthan gum, citric acid, Potassium sorbate and lavender essential oil, to achieve a dark stain and perfect drawing consistency.

What are the different uses for Jagua?

The Jagua fruit has a high nutritional value with several essential vitamins such as phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin B. The indigenous people of the rainforest also use the Jagua fruit as a medicine because it is believed to contain antibiotic properties. Despite the various uses of the fruit, Jagua is mainly harvested for its dyeing properties. The stain of the Jagua is very deep blue-black color similar to that of a tattoo done with ink and needle.
